Communication
Twitter online tweets on every topic imaginable. Following two published authors, one unpublished (as in not making money), International Symposium on personal and commercial spaceflight, virgin galactic (whoo hoo, parties in space), classmates, old friends, new friends ... and book critiques, did that for class in Rdg 525. That was fun. Try writing a story at 140 characters a shot ...
Yahoo IM contact with writers in other countries ... classmates ... friends and has a web version that does not have to be downloaded. works with classmates, co-workers, etc. Louise and Guina who are hard core critics, but like my writing anyway. I could spend hours talking plot with the two of them. (Oh, wait, I have spent hours talking plot with them *laughter*)
Skype contact with classmates. (Apparently more academics are aware of Skype than people in other venues, or I'm really sheltered). I've spent a lot of time on Skype in a variety of classes. Always a good experience, although my ability to destroy headphones is becoming legendary.
Blogs I actually have three apparently, the one linked under blog and the following two: dragonic musings, rubber reality check I'm still working on the blog thing. Since I have multi outlets for my fan fiction, I don't remember to blog. Insane Journal I'm not entirely certain this is a blog ... it's more an outlet for stuff like writing much like Live Journal, but not quite as ... er ... normal?
Networking
Facebook uhm ... thinking about this. Ostensibly, the dragonhavn one we have is up for movie making networking. Which isn't really working all that well. The one under my name is ... not that functional.
Email lists:
WePub ... writers. Doug who picks nits and finds le mot just, Pixie (14? published romances), Helen with five contracts for the next five years, Kerry with a successful series of sci-fi works, Mary who is a joy to have read your stuff, and a host of not so vocal others. If I ever finish anything original, these people will get me through the edit to get it to the publisher.
Email newsletters:
Holly Lisle (writer) and site, which is full of wonderful stuff and the sign up for the newsletter. If I could manage to work the way she does, I'd be published.

Holly Lisle Discovered that I live mostly in my subconscious mind with my muse
